June 2009

Hey Martial Arts Fans,

We've got heap big events going on this summer and lots of fun for everyone. Summer is a great time to get in and workout in our air conditioned gym. With so many varied schedules and summer vacations class sizes are smaller and you get more personalized training.

Saturday, June 20th from 12:00-1:30 is our TaeKwonDo testing. Students have sweated through 2 months of workout, techniques, forms, one-steps, sparring, plus more - and are ready to test their knowledge and composure in front of their Instructors, friends, and family. You're welcome to watch the students strut their stuff and please bring guests. We like to cram as many people as possible into the building to make the students nervous. Make-up testing will be Friday, June 26th at 5:30 pm. Immediately followed by our new belt and certificate ceremony (about 5:50). Don't forget the camera.

There will be no White-Yellow belt class Friday, June 26th.

We are closed July 3rd and 4th. Happy Independence Day!

Summer Camps for new students are July 6-10 & August 3-7. If you have friends and family who want to try Little Ninjas or TaeKwonDo this is a free and fun way to get started. We'll be focused on everything a beginner need to know to excell and of course playing lots of martial arts games. 3-5 year olds will participate in the first part of the program from 3:15-3:45. Kids 6 & up will have fun fron 3:15-4:40. Call AMAC at 887-0215 to reserve your child's week of free summer camp.

Saturday, August 15th is our TaeKwonDo testing and potluck picnic in the park. This event is open to all AMAC members and their families. Testing is followed by feasting, and feasting is usually followed by a water fight of students against the instructors who torture them in class. (Hint: The cleverest attendees have an ice chest of water ballons and super soakers pre-filled.)

Saturday, August 29th there is a TaeKwonDo tournament at American River College. Tournaments are a vital part of martial arts training where we put students in a unfamiliar environment, against unfamiliar opponents, and see how well they keep their head under pressure. This skill is vital should you ever need to defend yourself or perform well at a job interview. It's also just plain fun to meet martial artists from across the country and watch the world's fastest and most dynamic kickers face off.

September 10-13 we're taking our cage, bags, mats, and students to the Gold Country Fair in Auburn. Debbie and Amanda will run Women's Kickboxing classes, Dave & Mike Marinoble will run competition Kickboxing classes, Master Dan Lovas will teach Tai-Chi & Silat, and the TaeKwonDo Leadership Team will teach classes. We're even putting amateur fighters in the cage for pankration and kickboxing.

Like I said, it's going to be a busy and exciting summer. Don't miss out!
