2012 Newsletter, Testings, Tournaments, Activities and lots of "stuff"

Happy New Year to all who make our growing practice of martial arts what it is today. Whether you are a parent of a Tiny Tiger or a taekwondo student, a taekwondo student yourself or involved in one of our other unique programs such as; Escrima, Mixed Martial Arts, Indonesian Silat or part of our Fitness Kickboxing Program we wish to extend our well wishes to you for the year.
To all our students, brand new or those who have been in our family for years, my wife, 4th Dan Debbie Lovas and I wish to thank you for your continued patronage. Last year saw some great successes for our students as well as us. Our War Fuel has really hit the ground running, as have many of our Mixed Martial Arts fighters. If you haven’t tried our War Fuel yet, it sure “beets” what’s in those store-bought sports drinks. Ask us about it today!
Last year, we also saw what a great job our Instructors; 4th Dan Eddie Rhodes, 4th Dan Frank Huggard, 3rd Dan Jason Reeves, and 2nd  Dans Kris Bartow and Christopher Haupt did as they prepared our taekwondo students for both advancement and
competition.   This highly skilled team of Instructors is already hard at work preparing for what promises to be a great tournament season. These include our National Tournament and Black-Belt testing in April, additional tournaments along the way, and finally culminating with our National Championships and Black-Belt Testing in October in Reno, Nevada.
Are you prepared for your black-belt? Are you taking the necessary steps? Are you tracking your progress? We have created a simple 1-sheet form, your Path to Black Belt, for you to document your path. You will include your belt-testings, tournaments, points, one-steps, and plenty of space to write your own notes. Please ensure you receive counsel from your Instructors along the way to ensure you stay on your path. You will keep track of this simple form. Keep it with you.  I suggest you keep it in your spar bag with a pen. You will need to get it signed, as needed, and keep track of your own progress.  When you are within 3 months of receiving a new black-belt rank, we can sit down, review your completed form and ensure you meet all the requirements and have resolved any outstanding circumstances.
As with all families, our goal is to support each other. In terms of our kids, (down from the tiniest tiger to the biggest 17 and 364-day-year-old), we all need to do what we can to provide them a caring, supportive environment.  In a lot of circumstances, we are their social circle. Many of our youth are home-schooled, or take advantage of our 5-day a week after-school programs. Children that are kept busy are more likely to follow a positive path in life. They do, however, still need friends. You should make “play-dates” with their taekwondo friends, have sleep-overs, encourage these relationships.  Ensure you take an active part in our Activities Program. We also can help you host a really fantastic birthday party.
We also support our adult students (and all of our student’s parents). If you have a question or concerns, please do not hesitate to bring it to our attention. To our adult students, if it is a question of a taekwondo or other material related issues, please, ask only your Instructors. No one likes to relearn material that wasn’t shown to them properly. If you have questions regarding any of our programs, the studio itself or just about anything, Debbie knows everything, (she married me after all). If you have general studio questions, questions about our upcoming Activities Programs, testing, tournaments, your Path to Black Belt, calculation of points, UWTA or otherwise, and a few other odds and ends, 2nd Dan Lisa Wildman can help you. She is at the studio most afternoons.

We will have the schedule of our school testings on the website available soon, but for now you hopefully grabbed a blue newsletter that contained all this information and more. You can also verify all information for any UWTA events through their website directly. You can link them directly from our home page.   Thank you once again for being part of our family. We wouldn’t be here without you. We look forward to not only providing you the same great programs in the future, but some exciting new changes as well.
Sincerely, Senior Master Dan and Mrs. Debbie Lovas
